What To Know When Going Cold Turkey and Quitting Smoking
Going cold turkey is one of the more popular ways of quitting smoking but is also the most difficult. Scientists disagree on exactly how addictive nicotine is in reality—some maintain that it is a moderately addictive substance and others maintain that it is as addictive as cocaine—the fact remains that there are some unpleasant side effects associated with going cold turkey when quitting smoking.
Chief among them are irritability, headaches, difficulty concentrating and mood swings. Whether or not nicotine is the culprit in these withdrawal symptoms, most smokers will experience them to a greater or lesser degree.
When one chooses to quit smoking cigarettes they necessarily force their body to adapt to the absence of a substance to which it is become accustomed. The withdrawal phenomenon is not unique to nicotine. Even coffee drinkers who give up their morning joey will feel some symptoms of withdrawal. Sometimes, this withdrawal is more related to the absence of the ritual associated with smoking than it is with the nicotine.
Consider all that is involved with smoking a cigarette. There's the sound of the pack, the lighting of the cigarette, the smell of the tobacco and, perhaps most importantly, the psychological phenomena where in the individual having a cigarette believes that smoking is a means of giving themselves permission to relax. None of this is easy to give up.
Cold turkey quitting may work for some individuals and not at all for others. For some people, giving up all of this at once is just too much. There are some products that may help to relieve some of the symptoms of quitting smoking.
For example, products like Miracet offer risk free trials that may help alleviate some of the more unpleasant mental symptoms of kicking the habit. Replacing one’s smoking ritual with something healthier such as exercise or taking a ride may also help to alleviate some of the negative mental symptoms.

I have tried quitting cold turkey and it was hell! I really really wanted to kill my husband who was trying to support me by not letting me smoke. I think using a nicotine supplement like the gum would have actually been much better as it was the psychological withdrawal and sense of loss (almost like a death of something I love) were worse then the physical dependence on nicotine. I have yet to totally break that emotional need to smoke and thus smoke non nicotine ginseng cigarettes instead.
